2009 Let Your Light Shine!

I have not posted a blog in awhile and being busy I guess is no excuse, so I am not going to make any excuses! From my last blog till now, a lot has happened some bad and some good. I won’t go into too much detail but through it all, God has been with me every step of the way!

Well, for starters since my last blog, I was in a fairly bad car accident and thankfully I am fine but my poor Corolla did not fair well. I don’t think any car will fair well after being in a collision with a Hummer! I am very thankful that I was not hurt and as a result of the accident, I was blessed with a new car a 2009 Toyota Rav 4. Although, I was sad to see my Toyota Corolla be laid to rest, I was happy to have a new car which I enjoy cruising around in.

I was also blessed to have spent a wonderful Christmas with my folks. (Drama Free!!) Praise the Lord!! It was an amazing time, they came down and we just hung out and watched movies. God certainly is faithful to answer my prayers! Although, the downside, I was not able to see my brother, but I hope to get see him real soon.

Christmas and New Year’s came and went and I can’t believe that we are now in February. 2009 is well on its way. I truly believe that 2009 is a year for us to let our lives shine! I am striving to let my life shine this year! This life that I lead, is nothing without Jesus Christ and I would not have the amazing life that I have without my relationship with Him. I want very badly for others to see Jesus through my life.

There is a scripture that I am very familiar with but when I read it a few weeks ago, it spoke so strongly to me…

He told them, “The harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field. Luke 10:2

There are so many people around us that need to hear about Jesus and not to just have a knowledge about Him but to have an intimate relationship with Him! We as Christians need to take the time to see that God is wanting to bust open the gates of hell and start pulling people out into His Kingdom and make them white as snow and launch them into their destiny and calling! I get so excited to see that despite our circumstances, God is in complete control and if we put our focus on Him, there is nothing that can stop us from moving forward into all that God has for us! Like my Pastor said in a message recently, ’09 Is Mine!!

God’s Grace is always sufficient!!

It has been a couple of weeks since my last entry. I have been a busy little bee since the beginning of Nov. and it is only the middle of the month! God has been giving me so much grace with all the different things that are on my plate right now. In the past two weekends, I have helped put together an awesome Mad Hatter Tea Party bridal shower for my friend Erin and yesterday, I put together a Chili Cook-off for our church which was so much fun! Although, I would not have been able to do any of this without God’s help! At times I have felt the stress and anxiety try to creep up in me but I would give it to God and almost immediately an overwhelming sense of peace would come over me. God never leaves us or forsakes us!

As the holiday season is approaching quickly, I realize how much I need Jesus in my life and how in the midst of the hustle and bustle of life, He just wants us to stop and spend time with Him. When we give our concerns to Jesus, He always works it out!

Earlier this week, I was meditating on the scripture from Luke 10:40-42 about Mary and Martha:

Martha was distracted by all the preparations that had to be made. She came to him and asked, “Lord, don’t you care that my sister has left me to do the work by myself? Tell her to help me!”

“Martha, Martha,” the Lord answered, “you are worried and upset about many things, but only one thing is needed. Mary has chosen what is better, and it will not be taken away from her.”

As I was reading this scripture, Jesus had pricked my heart when it mentioned that Martha was distracted by all the preparations and was overwhelmed with “work.” I had to check my attitude and my heart because that was what I was feeling. I realize that God has given me giftings to plan and administrate but I can not lose sight of what is important and that is to partner with Jesus and allow Him to take care of all the details and instead spend time with Jesus rather than be worried with things that I can not control!

Leadership

I was reading a devotional today about leadership and when reading it is something that we have heard. That the qualifications of a leader is not to just sit behind a desk and simply bark orders for other people to accomplish. If that were the case, life as we know would come to standstill with a lot of people talking and not a whole lot of action. Successful leaders are able delegate duties to others but are also willing to perform those duties if necessary.

Jesus set the perfect example on the night he was betrayed by Judas Iscariot. As the evening meal was being served, he got up from the table, grabbed a towel and basin of water, and proceeded to wash the feet of his disciples. Such a task was supposed to be done by a servant, but Jesus was willing to take on that role. Peter wasn’t sure what to think of this, rejecting the foot washing at first. He had to be convinced. Later, Jesus informed Peter and the other disciples that leadership equals servanthood. It’s not an easy truth for many leaders to apply to life, but Christ’s example that night makes an eloquent case.

Many people want to be leaders but don’t want to do what it takes to be a leader and that is to serve. Meaning that you are never above any task no matter how menial and that you are willing to be an example to others. I know in my life I am constantly evaluating how I can be a better leader and I am in no way perfect but I do know that I have a heart to serve and see the Kingdom of God be advanced and to see the church (the bride of Christ) be built to be holy and blameless. That is going to take people who are willing to lay down their lives to serve others.

LOVE!!

This week has been a challenging week but Praise be to God that He is on the throne and is in control!! There have been tears and there has been laughter and through it all God has been by my side. I could not imagine my life without Him. Although, the challenges are still there, I have faith that through Jesus, all things are possible! I had written this poem a couple of years ago when I was going through some dark times and I still find encouragement that God is always faithful and His love is unconditional and everlasting!!

Who am I to know a love like Yours?

You love me with an everlasting love

Beautiful, fearfully and wonderfully made

A crown of beauty and a royal jewel in Your hand

Who knows me as intimately as You?

You knew me from the beginning

And You will love me until the end for all eternity

There is nothing that escapes Your loving and watchful eye

When I am bruised and bloodied from fighting this good fight of faith

And when I am weary

You take me up by the hand to pick me up

You come to tell me that I will fight for you

You are always there and never will You forsake me

Your touch and Your presence refreshes my soul

Your portion is enough for me

Yet You want to give me so much more

How can I respond to such love?

You gave me life by Your sacrifice

All I can do is stand in awe and reverence

To praise and worship You, My Jesus, My Love

Proverbs 31 Woman – Are we too busy for God?

This morning I was reading a devotional that really challenged me today and I thought I would share my thoughts so that it may encourage others. The devotional started with one of my favorite scriptures:

“Charm is deceptive, and beauty does not last; but a woman who fears the Lord will be greatly be praised.” Prov. 31:30

I know every woman wants to be the one that people think about when reading this passage in Proverbs 31. When reading this passage, it seems that the only thing that we have in common with the woman described in Proverbs is that we are really, really busy.

I know I find myself in the trap of being busy and sadly, busy seems to be the value lifestyle today. As I read this devotional it posed the question of “What does God say about being busy?” The answer comes through what Jesus said to Martha during one of His visits. “You are worried and upset over all these details. There is only one thing worth being concerned about.” (Luke 10:41-42). I thought to myself, have I been too busy “doing” that I may be missing out on the real work that God has asked me to do?

Looking more deeply into the Proverbs 31 woman, I find that there are more virtues than just being a busy woman. I see that this woman is defined by something much more substantial than a busy schedule or a long list of things to do and accomplish. I see that her husband (vs. 11), her servants, the poor and the needy (vs. 15, 20), the community (vs. 24) and her children (vs. 20) see her qualities and character shine more so than what she has accomplished. God wants me to be involved in people’s lives, not just busy checking off tasks on my to-do list. It is easy for me to use my talents and abilities to accomplish many things. But the real challenge is to find ways build healthy relationships while accomplishing things that I need to do.

According to verse 30, the number one priority of the Proverbs 31 woman is “Fear of the Lord.” This should dictate my daily to-do list. This kind of fear is a constructive fear that means acknowledging God’s authority and allowing only God to order our lives. I know that I prone to be a people pleaser, allowing the opinions of others to influence my decisions. It is so easy to forget that God’s opinion of me is the only opinion that counts. God values us not because of what we accomplished but because of what He has accomplished for us in Jesus Christ. He wants to impart His love, power and grace into us and work it out of us every day. When I think about that I am so motivated to live for Him! Because God loves me so much, I can relax and live my busy life confidently and with great joy!
